History for Homeschoolers 2017-18

Vermont People, Places and Ideas

Offered the second Wednesday and the second Thursday of each month. September 2017 through May 2018 • 1:00 to 3:00 pm
All sessions will take place at the Vermont History Museum in Montpelier.

Recommended for children ages 7 to 12. Some activities include reading and writing. Pre-registration is required.
Space is limited. Each session includes history-related activities that focus on the month’s theme.

September   Famous Vermonters – Learn about well-known Vermonters like Ethan Allen and others, like Clarina Howard Nichols, who should be more well-known.

October       Vermont Artists – Examine works of art by Paul Sample and Thomas Waterman Wood and learn how they captured Vermont stories.

November    Vermont Government – Explore how Vermont's state government works and visit the Vermont State House.

December    Vermont People – Learn about the lives of ordinary Vermonters over time.

January        Vermont Weather – Hope for snow to play a winter game and learn how the weather has affected Vermonters in the past.

February     Vermont Geography – Use maps to consider how Vermont's history was influenced by geography.​
• Wednesday, February 14         • Thursday, February 8 (note the classes are in different weeks)        

March          Vermont Businesses – Examine historic artifacts and documents to learn about the history of businesses in Vermont.

April             Preserving Vermont's History – Learn how the stories of Vermont's past are saved and shared.

May               Vermont Then and Now – Explore continuity and change throughout Vermont's history.

Sign up for some or all of the classes. Select either the Wednesday class or the Thursday class. 

$8.00 per child per session; $6.50 for VHS members and families with 3 or more participating children.
